Summer Hair Style
Natural Styling Products Only!
When it comes to styling my hair, I like it quick and effortless.
Which leads to me leaving the house with my hair styling itself aka I don’t bother doing anything, anything at all most of the time.
However, when top stylists (Andreas Kurkowitz Colouring Berlin) and my favourite hair care brand – Rahua – call and there’s a makeover offered, I’m there and I’m all ears: for my own sake and for the sake of bringing some lighthearted “green” fun and some trend insights to you, my readers.
As you might remember from the Trusted Brands’ Beauty News in June, Rahua have repackaged and slightly revamped their Leave-In Treatment, which they celebrated with the AKC event by inviting press and bloggers. Truly a match made in heaven, given that Rahua have a range of brilliant styling products to go with their hair care, and AKC have amazing stylists who work at fashion shows in New York, London, and Paris.
We’ll get to the 2018 runway hair trends in a sec, but let’s first appreciate what a piece of art stylist Ruby Howes (Instagram: @rubyhowes.hair) who I was extremely lucky to play the model for made from the strange thatch of Yours Truly.
She worked Rahua Enchanted Island Salt Spray into my clean, dry hair, and then, using a simple, slim flat iron, worked random waves into the strands: some curly, some wavy, some at an angle.
I think it’s a brilliant way to style a bob.
To copy this look at home, I am now looking to buy a flat iron (I was serious – all I own are a couple hair pins and a brush… I think I have a brush somewhere) that’s most energy efficient and gentle. And also small. Small is a feat because even though this style is so, so easy, I’m not going to sport it everyday.
Now, how long did the style last?
I’d say that while the sharp definition was gone next day, my hair maintained the movement, the lift, and the texture for two more days. Oh and speaking of texture! Ruby did something absolutely brilliant to my hair: she went with the random curls that reside naturally on the back of my head, and gave them definition.
Which helps me transition seamlessly into the topic of them hottest hair styles in 2018, because texture is an important key word.

2018 Hair Style Trends
So, one of the most interesting trends according to team AKC was that the stylists across the brands worked with the natural hair texture of the models. Instead of creating a one-look-fits-all (a very common thing to do for a runway), stylists at Trussardi or Vuitton simply allowed for the natural beauty of their models’ hair to shine through: straight, curly, even “peculiar” haircuts were spotted here and there. Yay individual take on beauty!
Vivid, crazy colours are another trend. Blue at Fendi, pink at Alexander Wang, orange at Haider Ackermann.
Models at Tod’s, Ferretti, The Row sported the very editorial-looking style – hairline definition which looks a bit like loose strands from your bangs sticking to your forehead. A very special look that doesn’t work in all life situations but I find doable in lieu of a full-blown wet hair look: another 2018 trend (Etro, Yamamoto, Marni).
Finally, good news for those of you who are not naturally blonde, rejoice! Because blondes can relax this summer: undone blonde (Chloé, John Galliano) rules.
Hairstyle trends 2018: bold colour; natural texture; hairline definition, undone blonde, wet look.
