“Less Plastic Packaging Would Be A Feat” – Liz of Smells Like A Green Spirit, Green Beauty Favourites

Sundays are for being invited into the bathrooms of some of our green heroes and for discovering their fave green beauty products. Today’s guest is a very dear friend from Luxembourg.

Welcome back to Green Beauty Faves!

Meet Liz, author of
Smells Like A Green Spirit

The best thing about the green beauty scene are the people. Let’s admit it: we’re not in this game for the money (although we need to talk money, green beauty industry, oh boy do we need to). We’re in it for learning and changing the world one organic lipstick, one fair fashion t-shirt at a time. As well as, last but not a little bit least, the people we meet.

Liz is one of such people I’m really grateful to have met. Unstoppably curious, gentle but determined, with a deliciously subtle sense of humour, Liz writes about green beauty and sustainable fashion and lifestyle on her blog named Smells Like A Green Spirit.

“The products I tend to gravitate towards on this – late-blooming – Spring season, are illuminating products.

I am fine with the shine, I go with the glow, that’s my beauty motto. I don’t use all the products mentioned together, some days I’ll just put on lipstick, a little of blush and highlighter, other days I’ll go for the CC cream and and a more heavy eye makeup look.

Since I am a big fan of versatile products, I got on right away with Skin Owl‘s Body + face gemstone inspired oils. It’s a face oil and luminous primer combined. ‘Morganite’ has a bronze sheen that instantly warms up my complexion.

On the days I want to have coverage and some sun protection, my go-to is the brilliant latest creation by Madara, namely the City CC. It has skyrocketed into my top tinted face products. Not only does it even out the skin but it also has some serious firming and plumping properties.

I can’t skip blush, lately I love Burt’s bees blush (‘Shy Pink’) for a delicate flush of color. If I want something warmer, I reach for Antonym Cosmetics highlighting blush in ‘cheek crush’. It was one of my favorite discoveries from the last year and I just can’t get over how beautiful this illuminating warm apricot shade is.

When I want to conceal a few zits, I am using the multi-correcteur by Absolution (02) which is one of my most-recent purchases and the texture reminds me of W3ll People concealer which I adore. Absolution is slightly thicker in texture and the coverage is excellent, you could even use it as a foundation.

When it comes to highlighters, I tend to favour PuroBio and Rituel de Fille. In my opinion, PuroBio has the best powder highlighters and Ritual de Filler the best in cream forms. My favourite is the Resplendent Highlighter in ‘Champagne’. On my Instagram account, I have a stories series called “Glow up” where you can see how illuminating it is. I love to apply it as an eyeshadow or just in the inner corner of my eyes to add a pop of shine. Same applies for Rituel de Fille rare light luminizer in ‘Phosphene’ which is a warm rose gold highlighter.

I don’t do intricate eye makeup looks, I usually swipe on a little bronze eyeliner on the lower lashline, apply a little bit of color on my eyelids and finish it off with mascara. I have been consistently wearing the Und Gretel Holt eye pencil in 8. I had seen Nath review this German brand and caved in. I’m glad I did because it is creamy, long-wearing and I’m a sucker for metallic browns in eye crayons.

When I wear eyeshadow, I turn to the Studio78 palette, aka the palette that got me into wearing green eyeshadow. The colors are stunning, you’ve got a mix of matte and shimmer shades and they are super blendable, very easy for a day-to-night look transition.

Now onto the lashes, I am using up the Fitglow mascara. I love it because it creates a my-lashes-but-better-effect can also be built up the for more volume and achieve that falsies effect. It is a crowd-pleaser.

As a self-proclaimed lipstick addict, I could not get myself to pick just one product.
Lip balm is also a must, I am using the By Sarah lip balm and it’s a coconut explosion. Think of those Raffaellos confectionaries but in a lip balm form, pure decadence. As a lip scrub, I  really enjoy the one by Sante, not only is it practical and small enough to carry everywhere but it does the job efficiently.
For someone that normally loves a berry or a bright pink lip, I have been switching it up and opting for softer colors to get a my-lips-but-better effect. Lately, I can’t get enough of Ilia‘s ‘Kokomo’ lip conditioner with has added SPF. I also alternate with ‘Sunna’ by Cupid & Psyche Beauty, it’s a vegan US lipstick brand and ‘Sunna’ is a caramel nude shade.

Last but not least, perfume.
I am obsessed with Abel‘s Golden Neroli. It’s such an uplifting and fresh scent and it never fails to revive my spirits and help me conquer the world – haha. Recently I also bought the new Leahlani aromatherapy essence roll-on ‘Bless’ which smells delightful as well, I apply it on the crook of my neck and pulse points and I feel surrounded by a warm aroma of citrus blossoms and blue tansy.

As far as my biggest challenge or a thing still missing on the green beauty market…

What I feel is still challenging on the beauty market is anything linked to packaging. While I am thrilled to see more brands come up with ‘non-toxic’ formulas, it would be the cherry on top to have a packaging that matches the green spirit 😉 At this stage it has become a real necessity to consume less plastic and opt for more bio-degradable and recyclable materials.”

“I genuinely enjoy each post by Nath but lately I liked the focus on supplements, a topic which I find particularly difficult to review/ discuss as there is a lot of contradicting information surrounding it. You can count on Nath for dispelling myths and alternative facts.”

What a great line-up of delicious favourites.
Thank you, Liz!
