MY BEAUTYCALYPSE DISCOVERY

“As a freelance make up artist I am always trying new clean beauty products. In my quest to find clean nail polish I discovered Beautycalypse and I loved Nath’s in-depth overview of Zao, Korres and Tromborg nail polish.
I love talking ‘shop’ with Nath and exchanging tips on our latest natural beauty discoveries.”

NAT: MY GREEN FAVOURITES

“As I work with models of all skin tones and types and my professional kit is huge I thought to narrow it down to the basics.
My trademark is creating beautiful skin, so below you find a peek into my go-to base products for palest to darkest beauties. Skin prep is a big one for me, I often exfoliate and give a mini facial using oils and serums to hydrate the skin.”

“My staples are VapourJuice BeautyGressaAlima Pure and Ilia for their wide choice in colour – all vegan apart from Vapour. I love Alima Pure for ethnic skin as it has 45 shades of powder foundations! I mix these pigments into other foundations for a personalised shade. W3ll People Altruist Foundations work very well for this too, or on their own. Shade 18 has a yellow undertone great for Indian skin tones. Hynt Duet Perfecting Concealer is my hero concealer to cover dark circles or hyper pigmentation in a ’second skin’ way, see this tutorial to catch shade ‘Tan’ on camera.”

“Looking for beautiful yellow undertones? Try W3ll People Altruist Foundation, shade 18.”

Vapour Soft Focus Foundation has been one of my hero product for a long time. The high organic content really makes this really skincare fused with make up. I love the beautiful dewy highlights and ‘090’ is one of the palest natural foundation shades without overpowering pink or yellow undertones. Juice Beauty’s Flawless Serum Foundation also does a super light shade – even more so mixed with the primer – yet in contrast has a buildable matte full cover finish.
Gressa’s Corrective Serum Foundation made with broccoli seed oil – nature’s silicone dupe – is highly pigmented and comes with a dropper for easy mixing. It is pretty water resistant (I tested it cycling in the rain!) and shade 8 is a beautiful deep dark chocolate brown, see below on Gucci model Nicole Atieno. For super dark skin I also like Zao cream foundation that doubles up for contouring, I wish it would come in a pro pallete including all skin tones like Bobbi Brown’s!”

“Gressa Corrective Serum Foundation has great dark tones – and London summer grade of approval for being water-resistant ;)”

Nu Evolution I discovered a while back, for their capsule collection of super matte liquid foundations (full cover + gluten-free). I love Ilia’s Vivid foundation for a natural light to medium wear that does not look like you are wearing make up. Juice Beauty CC Cream I use for shiny ‘no make up’ looks and is even lighter in formulation.
For sweat proof second skin foundation – great for male grooming – I also like organic budget option by Purobio. To add a pop of colour I use my pallette crammed with lipsticks, bronzers and cream sticks by Ilia, Vapour and W3ll People. This way I can see in one quick glance what might suit my model, and I generally prefer cream over powder to get a radiant glow.”

“To complete a ‘no make up’ look I typically skip mascara but never brows. Zuii’s Organic Eyebrow Definer pencil is a new personal favourite as it is easy to use and right on point with colour shade. Also I love Hiro’s Wow Brow Pomade, it is highly pigmented yet not heavy. For ashy blondes and full pigment Zao’s 613 pencil is a great option, see it in action in this brow tutorial.”
