The latest addition to the BEAUTYCALYPSE Brand to Watch series is an up and coming, award–winning, vegan-friendly, tox-free skincare brand from the elegant German metropolis Düsseldorf.
For those working in the natural cosmetics industry it’s “that time of year” again: the wonderful 10th Natural Cosmetics Conference in Berlin is just round the corner! Last year (and do check out this 2-part review to see all the reasons why you should go, too) I was lucky to meet a few amazing people, among which the co-founder of a new German skincare brand Yverum, Iris Janssen.
BC Brand to Watch:
Iris founded yverovel GmbH, the company behind the Yverum brand, in 2012 with a partner and a beautician friend, looking to create the purest possible, thickener-free hyaluron-based product. She chose to follow BDIH guidelines because of their distinguished advice, long-term experience – and also for the “door opening” benefit this trusted natural cosmetics label has for newcomer brands.
Two Yverum products won the Vivaness best new product award in 2015 (Hyaluron eye and lip serum) and in 2016 (Hyaluron anti-aging serum), and with a BDIH-label and a pure and exclusive formula, what’s not to love?
The minimalistic packaging and the reduced silver, white and magenta colour scheme make the line look almost medical and quite upscale while the prices are kept reasonable.
Right now, Yverum have five products:
HYALURON anti-aging serum, HYALURON creme 24h, HYALURON eye and lip serum, yverum lip care stick (which also acts as the refill for the yverum lip care cover case), and yverum lip collagen – a tinted lip care stick, the latest addition to the range.
I have tested a full size HYALURON anti-aging serum, HYALURON eye and lip serum (sachet) and the full size (or refill size) yverum lip care stick that I received as press samples, with no strings attached.
⭐️ The first product I tested was the Hyaluron anti-aging serum (30 ml, €89) – a product made with just four ingredients:
AQUA, ALCOHOL, SODIUM HYALURONATE, ECTOIN.
This is as light as you’d expect it to be and creates only a hint of a dry “film” on your skin. Ectoin is great choice (except of course for people with an individual allergy to ectoin, in which case it’s clearly not) for its skin-protecting benefits. UV rays, fine dust, dryness, eczema, allergic reactions – city dwellers, give skincare with ectoin as an active ingredient a try!
Just like the recently launched Ileur Gold Luminosity, Yverum’s Hyaluron anti-aging serum is a welcome break for those natural cosmetics users that need to step back from products with lots of essential oils and plant extracts. Although you might need some kind of an oil serum in the heart of winter, as it’s often the case with gel products. Another great benefit of the serum is that it balances the skin and helps keep inflammations at bay.
⭐️Next in line: Hyaluron eye and lip serum (full size would be a 15 ml bottle selling at €59) of which I had a sachet sample.
Use it very sparingly for light massages of your lip and eye contour. Usually I am not partial to a generous use of glycerin in skincare, but then it often depends on the individual formulation. In this case, I did not notice any drying out the skin; also the serum works very well under eye make-up. Over time, the hyaluron power should gently plump the thin skin under the eyes.
With Cistus and Gynostemma pentaphyllum extracts, Yverum have chosen two rare actives. While Cistus is known for regenerative properties, Gynostemma pentaphyllum (a cucumber relative from China) is an exotic adaptogen/ anti-oxidant borrowed directly from the TCM teachings.
One bit of advice though: only use hyaluron-based eye contour products if you have thin, paper-like, transparent skin in this area. If you have any tendencies to develop under-eye puffiness, stay away from any hyaluron-based product. Try gentle lymph drainage with a drop or two of pure cucumber seed oil (always test for sensitivities!).
Ingredients: AQUA, ALCOHOL, GLYCERIN, SODIUM HYALURONATE, ECTOIN, CISTUS INCANUS FLOWER/LEAF/STEM EXTRACT, GYNOSTEMMA PENTAPHYLLUM LEAF/STEM EXTRACT, DECYL GLUCOSIDE, GLUTAMINE, PHENETHYL ALCOHOL, CITRIC ACID.
⭐️Finally, the yverum lip care stick (4.8 g, €4.95), a silky smooth care stick based on a blend of rich, plant-derived waxes. It softens dry and chapped lips, promotes healing, works under lipstick and doesn’t crease. Due to the berry wax in the formula, your lips are softened and protected but without the unpleasant film-like finish.
Yverum have created a tinted lip care stick not long ago, but I would love it to have SPF on top. However, I’m not complaining, for the blend of olive oil, berry wax, carnauba wax, cacao butter, candelila wax, castor seed oil, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, sweet almond oil, buckthorn fruit oil and aloe already reads like a “who’s who” or “best of” for lip care products.
Of all lip care sticks and balms out there, I’ve tested many over time – Berlin winter will make you do it – and it’s one of my two favourites, the other one being Ilia Beauty’s fantastic Balmy Days.
