SPF and skincare benefits in clever & versatile product formulas, moisturising on the go, smart hygienic packaging.
The Ilia Beauty novelties in summer 2017 are sure to excite – and not just the green beauty mavens.
After the initial “beauty news” format back in winter of 2016 was well-received by most of you guys, some have requested less “news-like” reviews, and more in-depth introductions.
And will continue today with the “white” line of Ilia Beauty Skincare and SPF range.
Summer 2017 Collection
Today we’ll look into the uber-cool US-based brand Ilia Beauty’s latest make-up/ skincare novelties.
Ilia stand out with model ingredient transparency, and even though I’m not partial to their occasional using of silicones or “conventional” pigments (as tiny the percentage might be), I highly value and respect the attitude of delivering a top quality product very much on par with the “conventional” top brands plus the commitment to continuuous improvement.
For example, by now all palm-oil derived ingredients come from sustainable sources. That’s all music to my ears, sore with marketing claims.
Ilia summer collection 2017 consists of three products – two new launches plus two new shades for the existing Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15:
Cucumber Water Stick – described as a “cooling toner in stick form”
Radiant Translucent Powder SPF 20 Moondance
Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15 – two new shades, peachy beige ‘Darlin” and a purple-laced raspberry ‘Kamikaze’
Ilia Beauty Cucumber Water Stick Review
26 g, 44€. Full disclosure: Aqua/water, Sodium Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Cichorium Intybus (Chicory) Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Benzoate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol.
+ A clean and gentle formulation
+ Excellent mosturising properties
+ This “solid” (read: spill-proof) toner formula is perfect for frequent travellers and is ideal in-flight skincare as well!
o I was asked about Phenoxyethanol the day I shared the products on Instagram, and here’s my two cents. While I found a mention of contact dermatitis caused by a 4% Phenoxyethanol solution, in the EU the use of Phenoxyethanol is limited to under 1% of the overall formula.
The antibacterial preservative agent is not rated critical by Codecheck, quite possibly due to this regulation.

Bottom Line – The “White” Line Review
With Ilia Beauty, I’m a tiniest bit on the fence. Don’t get me wrong: absolutely all products are excellent in terms of performance, pigmentation and wear. Most are overwhelmingly natural-based. I own several lipsticks, lip conditioners, one lip crayon and one lip balm that has safeguarded my pout through the coldest winter days. But then while many products are 100% clean, a few have “small” amounts of silicones (eye shadow sticks) or questionnable pigments – mostly those super intense, super flashy lippies. What I like, however, is that the brand is completely transparent, and you can navigate the range picking only products with ingredients you personally find are green enough for you.
Now, the summer 2017 collection is absolutely gorgeous.
Last I checked, Moondance was sold out over @ Amazingy, so I presume it’s quite a favourite with most customers. And it truly is a great product – portable sunscreen that comes in a powder texture (yay! mattify and protect in one gesture!), with a detachable brush (yay, hygiene!) and even is refillable.
The Cucumber Water Stick is absolutely genius for frequent travellers – a cooling, hydrating toner that’s a stick? Shut up and take my money.
Finally, most sunscreen products for the lips that I’ve tried in the past didn’t deliver in terms of colour or texture and were neither repurchase-worthy, nor recommendable. Luckily, since this summer, Ilia’s Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15 is available in four different, flattering shades for any beauty look. And they’re even wearable as blush!
Looks like the summer holiday beauty case is packed, non? 😉
