Ringana ADDS – A Long-term Test in: Range Review #15

In Spring 2017, Ringana launched a range of new fluids called Ringana ADDS. Novel approach: listing of the amount of active ingredients per product application. So, how good are those?

Ringana ADDS,
Range Overview

Ringana ADDS is a new range of three power fluids, designed to be added to either Ringana Hydroserum or the Anti-Wrinkle Serum at a ratio 2 pumps serum : 1 pump ADD fluid. The novel approach to ingredient transparency is the first noticeable innovation: the ingredient declaration lists exactly how much active ingredient is contained in one pump of each serum. This information is listed as µg (microgram) per pump.

The concept of a serum – or of a concentrate etc. – that the consumer can add to her skincare is not new as such, but is the best way of incorporating short-term changes of how our skin reacts to the environement without having to look for new skincare. While skincare geeks might enjoy to occasionally mix up precious oils and flower waters themselves to appease Goddess Skin’s daily caprices, others may prefer a ready-made addition to their time-tested favourites. This is an idea perpetuated in skincare as much as it is in colour make-up: adjustability rules; if a solution is flexible and versatile, it lets the customer feel in control.

The range consists of three fluids – effect, repair, and glow, all three free from fragrance and colourants. Each fluid needs to be used up within six weeks after opening and must not be applied on its own or to the eye area.

Ringana ADDS effect

Designed to promote skin firmness and soften the wrinkles, the blue fluid ADDS effect (15 ml, and the most expensive of the three at 49€) owes its colour to copper-based actives, Copper Tripeptide (3µg per pump push), a powerful skin regeneration active, promoting collagen and elastin production, and Copper Lysinate (15µg) for fibroblast regeneration. Other actives are Porphyridium cruentum (9µg), an extract of Mediterranean red algae added to improve skin hydration, and Acmella oleracea (13µg), a paracress extract inhibiting contractions in subcutaneous muscles and thus often – simplistically – dubbed “plant botox”.

Ingredients ADDS effect:
Citrus aurantium dulcis fruit water* (Orange water), Nelumbo Nucifera Root Water (Lotus water), Pyrus Malus Fruit Water (Apple water), Oryza Sativa Bran Water (Rice water), Rosa Damascena Flower Water* (Rose water), Aqua, Pentylene Glycol, Glycerin, Alcohol, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Pullulan, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Bis(Tripeptide-1) Copper Acetate, Methylglucoside Phosphate, Copper Lysinate/Prolinate, Acmella Oleracea Extract, Porphyridium Cruentum Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate (short and long chain), Hamamelis Virginiana Leaf Extract* (Witch hazel water), Sodium Phytate, Arginine, Citric Acid. * ingredients from controlled organic cultivation

Ringana ADDS repair

Pale green ADDS repair fluid (15 ml, 39€) offers sebum control and reduces irritation. Anti-inflammatory actives include Rutinyl Disulfat (6 µg per pump push), a potent bio-flavonoid, and Frankincense (3 µg) extract. Vitamin B6 provides sebum control and Vitamin C is used to clear up the skin. With hardly any alcohol in the formula, it’s particularly gentle to irritated skin. The green colour comes from added Chlorophyll.

INGREDIENTS: Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Fruit Water* (Orange water), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Actinidia Chinensis
Fruit Water (Kiwi water), Pentylene Glycol, Pyrus Malus Fruit Water (Apple water), Pyridoxine Cyclic Phosphate, Rosa Damascena Flower Water* (Rose water), Disodium Rutinyl Disulfate, Arginine, Boswellia Serrata Resin Extract, Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract, Lecithin, Sodium

Ringana ADDS glow

The yellow ADDS glow fluid (15 ml, 39€) has an anti-oxidant, glow-inducing, re-texturising formula. Vitamin B3 (13 µg per pump push) is added to even out the skin tone, to soften discolourations and hyperpigmentation. Marrubium vulgare (White horehound, 11 µg) is a plant extract with anti-oxidant and texture improving qualities. Another active is Glucosyl Hesperidin (5 µg), a bio-flavonoid extracted from citrus fruits, a strong antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that has been scientifically proven to enhance microcirculation when applied topically. Hardly any alcohol in the formula.

Ingredients: Citrus aurantium dulcis fruit water* (Orange water), Nelumbo Nucifera Root Water (Lotus water), Rosa Damascena Flower Water* (Rose water), Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Pentylene Glycol,
Ascorbyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Pyrus Malus Fruit Water (Apple water), Arginine, Glucosyl Hesperidin, Marrubium Vulgare Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana Leaf Extract* (Witch hazel extract), Sclerotium Gum, Sodium Phytate, Citric Acid, Alcohol, Aqua.* Ingredients from controlled organic cultivation.

Ringana ADDS,
Range Review & Nath’s Long-term Test

I use my ADDS fluids with Ringana Hydroserum. For the record: usually I’m all for mixing things up, but with rather complex formulas made to complement each other, I prefer to stick with the manufacturer’s suggestions.

The long-term test started early in April and, because I worked my way through all three fluids – after all their shelf life, once opened, is 6 weeks only – is still running.

While you will find all the benefits in the respective sections below, I found that all ADDS fluids felt more or less sticky on the skin, and not all make-up textures could handle it. It’s a matter of trial and error. Especially the repair fluid (green) would sometimes roll on my skin as though peeling off. I found the effect fluid (blue) to be the least sticky.

On a positive side of things that apply to all three fluids is the spreadability of the products. The suggested 2:1 ratio of Hydroserum:ADDS yields quite a dollop of product really, usually enough to apply to face, neck, decollete… and treat the backs of my hands.

Ringana ADDS effect

The effect fluid – a tanzanite-blue beauty – is my favourite to apply in the evening, with a very light facial massage. Almost immediately after application, skin feels velvety-smooth, any dryness is softened, tensions disappear, making the fluid ideal night care or even big-event-worthy.I’m not sure if 13 microgram paracress extract truly is enough to relax the muscles, so maybe it’s a joint effort of a massage and a relaxation technique, but I did notice a particular lightness in the tissues, particularly beneficial after a long day of work aka tense staring into a MacBook. (I should add that I can describe this because I’m sensitive to the sensation of tension and relaxation due to a long-time facial massage and exercise practice.) Hence the preferred application in the evening. A shame that the fluids don’t go to the contour of the eyes!

Ringana ADDS repair

The repair fluid has helped me through a couple PMS weeks within two months, a time that usually includes an odd breakout here and there. Not on ADDS repair’s watch! I found that this fluid would work under foundation only if applied super-sparingly.Together with the glow fluid, ADDS repair is my favourite to use for daytime skincare. It makes the skin feel hydrated and soft; and while there is not as much visible effect after application as with the other fluids, the anti-inflammatory action shows long term – no active breakouts, evened-out texture. I don’t know if the mattifying effect is strong or not though – since the major change of diet a few years ago plus some more tweaks to my general lifestyle, oily skin is a rare problem.

Ringana ADDS glow

The glow fluid was the first I tested. It does give your face a kind of a… polished shine. Not the oily shine, not at all.The effect is of that look your face gets after a good massage and a cleansing treatment: plump, rosy, fresh. On days I wore ADDS glow with my skincare, I usually didn’t even feel any desire to cover this amazing healthy beam with make-up. Whatever imperfections I’d otherwise meticulously “pinpoint-conceal”, the radiant effect was like a veil of forgiving diffused light, cast all over my face. I should also mention that all Ringana products are developed, made and packaged in Austria, are vegan-friendly, and that the few PO-based ingredients come from RSPO-certified sources. I particularly adore the packaging, reduced to a soft towel wrap (aka clever transport protection) with a simple paper sleeve – a fresh take on waste reduction.

***

Is the range a keeper? Oh yes. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of the Hydroserum for its stickyness and for messing with my make-up, as long as the product provides a good base for the fluids, I can manage. In particular the glow and the effect fluids have grown dear to my heart – who doesn’t like to be their most radiant self during the day and their least stressed out best after work? I will see these guys again in Autumn. An extra bit of advice: keep them all in the fridge, and pop on a bit of pretty washi paper with the expiration date = the day you opened the bottle + 6 weeks. Trust me now and thank me later.
