ADEx – or ABURY Design Experience – is the first accessory design competition for emerging designers and design students.
Designers please get all application info at the official ADEx page before May 5th 2017, but first let’s look at the 2016 winner’s collection and at the exquisite design experience that awaits this year’s winner.
ADEx 2016 COLLECTION:
WINDOWS & DOORWAYS
Inspired by the eponymous elements of the Moroccan architecture, Canadian designer Adam French known for his label Adan Ballou’s rustic and experimental handmade leather goods, has combined the simple elegance of the bag shapes – a large and a small tote, a large and a small business bag, and a clutch/ mini crossbody – with colour-blocked geometrical elements. Available in two colour combinations camel/ creme and orange/ purple, the bags sell at 180–290€ (the leather tassels are sold separately, at 25€ each).
Discover the collection now in the ABURY online shop.
WHO WILL WIN IN 2017?
Now let’s get back to the competition for you or for the sake of your aspiring designer friends, shall we!
So, what is the ADEx?
ADEx is short for ABURY Design Experience. It’s the first international contest for emerging designers as well as a measure of preservation of artisanal knowledge and tradition through exchange, collaboration, and fair and sustainable business.
What’s in it for the winner?
Two months in the artisanal community of Sabahar, Ethiopia, known for traditional weaving of locally grown cotton and silk; a PR package; a trip to Berlin or to the gardens of ADEx sponsor Dr. Hauschka.
How is the winner determined?
By a combination of a jury vote and public voting. More details here.
Yes. Anyone starting age 21 can apply if they are about to graduate or have graduated within past five years.
How to enter?
On the ADEx website. And better hurry, submissions are accepted only until May 5 2017! UPDATE: May 12!
Editor’s note: the website has been down a few times, so don’t panic, try again later or, if the problems occur repeatedly, get in touch with ABURY directly.
Why is it so relevant to participate – and to share?
The ABURY Design Experience is a unique way to preserve world crafts, present more emerging talented designers to the fashion industry, and to support local communities. 50% of the collection profits will be re-invested in education projects in the Ethiopian community.
And finally, a few words from Andrea Bury, ABURY and ADEx founder, about this year’s design experience:
The applicants should be open-minded and ready to embark on a completely new experience, ready to abandon old patterns. It would obvisouly be helpful if the applicants had some silk or with handwoven fabric know-how in general! But it’s definitely not a knock-out if they don’t.”
