🏆Product Battle #8: Organic Liquid Eyeliners

*wink* I’ve been searching far and wide to find these three stunning ‘clean&green’ treasures in fancy, beautifying colours. But which wins?

To tackle the issue right away: even those who scare away from winged eyeliner looks, are too tempted to try. However, from my own experience, if you could boil all advice, all tutorials on the Internet down to what really matters, the FORMULA for PERFECT WINGED EYELINER will depend on just two things:

a steady hand and an unblinking eye that you gotta bring
+
a good liquid texture that’s smooth, even, lasting, and not runny.

PRODUCT BATTLE TIME!

…And the products that I’m about to throw into the merciless arena of the grey and rainy Berlin spring without further ado are:
Sante Dipliner: No. 02 sparkling silver
Sante Lash Extension Eyeliner: No. 02 black sapphire
Zao Pearly Eye Liner: 063 Plumproduct-battle-liquid-eyeliners

All have great colour payoff and stunning colours. The formulas are excellent, long-lasting, all can be removed with warm water and a reusable, extra soft Konjac eye make-up remover pad; all three are certified organic and cruelty-free, two are vegan-friendly. No wheat-based ingredients, no conflict palm oil. FFS, what are we going to compare!?organic-vegan-winged-eyeliners-review-comparison

Sante Dipliner No. 02 sparkling silver

3 ml, approx. €9 (best price among the three). Comes with a thick, supple felt tip ideal for beginners. The tip is long enough to be simply pressed against the lid – which will produce a fairly even line – and reasonably slim at the very tip to effortlessly pat on the wing in your winged eyeliner!

The texture is state-of-the art; immediate colour release; the soft metallic grey is flattering on my green eyes, making them look slightly greener by contrast with the perfectly neutral grey. The name of the colour is misleading though: you won’t find any actual sparkle in there. Hey, Sante: fancy renaming it silky silver, perhaps? 😉sante-dipliner-winged-eyelinerPulling a “Marilyn”: winged eyeliner where the line is curved into a thicker line along the inner third of the lid. Some say bedroom eyes, others say cross-eyed (pha! Philistines!).

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Alcohol, Mica, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Polyglyceryl -10 Laurate, Xanthan Gum, Silica, Euphrasia Officinalis Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Silk, Tin Oxide, Parfum (Essential Oils), Limonene, Linalool, CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide).
Label: BDIH.
Free from conflict palm oil and derivates.
Cruelty-free.
Not vegan-friendly (silk).

Sante Lash Extension Eyeliner No. 02 black sapphire

4 ml, approx. €16. The brush is ultra-thin, flexible and slightly springy for outstanding precision!

The texture is excellentimmediate colour release; the deep dark blue intensifies eye colour; wear it with neutrals and it looks nearly black; wear it with blues and WOW, you get a gorgeous gemstone blue infused with finest, most elegant metallic shimmer. No idea whether the lash boost really works since a) I’m not wearing it daily and b) I couldn’t care less, but hey, that’s the promise: longer lashes.sante-lash-extension-sapphire-review-winged-eyeliner sante-lash-extension-eyeliner-colour-swatch-sapphireBlue and green should never be seen, they say. The most natural colour combination IMHO.

Texture comparison. Zao is really runny here, whereas you can see that both Santé eyeliners have dried right away.

Zao Pearly Eye Liner 063 Plum

6 ml, approx €19. The brush is long and elastic. The shape is even (as in: doesn’t get thinner towards the end).

The strangest texture: it’s as though metallic colour sits in a colourless liquid: gotta shake da bottle. Colour release is good, but the texture is slightly runny so you’ve got to make sure to never pick too much product. When it dries, it dries to a film-y finish. (Check out my Zao range review hereThe colour is sublime though: accurately last year’s in-colour Marsala. Probably not by design though as it’s part of the basic collection, but it’s truly a great eye colour booster.zao-plum-winged-eyeliner Here’s just the ‘Plum’ eyeliner worn alone.zao-beauty-review-eyeliner-plum-swatch-2Here’s the eyeliner combined with the green Zao khol, from this haul & review.

Well. If I were to sum up the pros of each product (where each feature highlighted above yields one point), the score would be as follows:
Sante Dipliner: No. 02 sparkling silver
8 points with best value for money, ideal for beginners, unfortunately not vegan-friendly.
Sante Lash Extension Eyeliner: No. 02 black sapphire
8 points for the equisite texture, ultra fine brush and the extra perk; it’s the most expensive of the three though.
Zao Pearly Eye Liner: 063 Plum
7 points – the weakest texture of the three but a rare statement colour; fragrance-free is a great feat.

Now, question #1: Which one would you prefer?
Question #2: Should I do complete looks or are you fine with looking at swatch-like eye close-ups? 😉

  1. I’m another one who can’t be bothered with eyeliner – lack of coordination, I think – but I admire those who can apply it skillfully.

However, you’ve prompted me to give it another go, because I really like the look of Sante Lash Extension Eyeliner No. 02 black sapphire.

    • Thank you for your lovely comment 🙂 Black sapphire is rather exquisite.

    • I think it’s a type thing, isn’t it? Got a friend who couldn’t apply eye shadow or nail polish for the life of her, while I myself couldn’t be bothered with styling my hair 😀

    • Klimt! 😻
      Made my day.

Have you ever tried dark emerald green eyeliner? Or khol (waterline/ tightline)? I think bold jewel shades. Or are you the lip type? 🙂 Because I’m totally the eye type with the firm belief that lipstick is here to be nibbled away, and lipgloss is here to mess with my hair! 😀

      • Yep i’m Team Lip. Bloody hayfever and allergies have kept my eye makeup rather dull as my eyes are sore/watering approximately 67.929% of the time = smeary mess. I did however on a whim buy a cobalt blue eyeliner today so we’ll see!

  2. Hey Cindy,
Actually, from all I know and all the info I can get, it hasn’t been discontinued. I just saw several of them in an organic supermarket! Also the company still lists it here (German website):
    http://www.sante.de/de/produkte/dekorative-kosmetik/fuer-die-augen/dipliner/
The dark blue metallic khol is by und Gretel, and I’ve swatched and reviewed it here:
    https://beautycalypse.com/2015/10/12/range-review-und-gretel-natural-organic-makeup-berlin/
But in case you mean the dark green one, then it’s this one by Zao:
    https://beautycalypse.com/2015/03/03/zao-beauty-rspo-eye-make-up-haul-review/

  3. Hi, I would love to try the Sante Dipliner: No. 02 sparkling silver, but it seems to be discontinued! I like the Kohl eye pencil you are wearing, is that also a Sante product? thanks!

    • Hi Cindy, wordpress keeps eating my comment. I hope this one shows up at least and am omitting all links:
      1) Sante didn’t discontinue the colour. It’s still available, part of the range
      2) The blue khol is by und Gretel, review via blog search on the left 🙂
      3) Green khol is by Zao, review and more swatches linked in the post.
      Hope this helps!

      • Thank you for your help! I live in Michigan, in the States, and when I checked the Sante USA site they only listed black. I can give that a try, unless you have a suggestion for ordering their products for me, thanks again!

        • A friend pointed out she spotted Santé and this very dipliner at amazon.com – hope this info helps you!

  4. Right you have the plum eyeliner! This looks always so great. Perfect fit for you I think.

Reminds me in the blue one I wanted to get.

By the way, I bought the empty Zao palette and love the bamboo design. Now my most used eye shadow travel in style.

    • Thank yooooou 🙂 I love the look and feel of bamboo as well! Have you seen the re-launched Wolkenseifen? Their new deos sit in GLASS JARS with BAMBOO lids! ❤

  5. I love seeing these products on your beautiful face – it really gives such a clearer sense of what you are trying to demonstrate. xo
