Berlin is home to many beautifully different Christmas Markets. Here are three that I’m particularly fond of because they’re the greenest + a complete list of cool alternative Christmas Markets in Berlin.
Unfortunately I have missed this year’s Santa Goes Green event in the Betahaus (having not realised that it was hosted on a single Saturday in Advent, duh!), but here are three more that we Berliners still can and should attend:
Adventsökomarkt der Grünen Liga
What: Admittedly, this one makes you wonder if the Avengers (at least, the Hulk) have whipped up an advent market. Doesnt “Green Liga” sound like a superhero home!? However, the weekly eco market is an institution, and their Advent / Christmas edition fairly popular.
When: December 6, 13 and 20; 12:00-19:00.
Vendors: Eco-fair and certified organic galore! Christmas wreaths, tree ornaments, wooden toys, organic chocolates, artisanal jewellery, ceramics, garments…
Nom: Clay ofen pizza, wafers, crêpes, sugar-free hot punch for kids, eco wine for adults, organic mulled wine, met, chai…
Where: Kollwitzplatz (Kollwitz Square), 10405 Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg (U2 Senefelder Platz).
Entry charge: free.
More at: Grüne Liga website (German).
The Green Christmas Market
What: Green Market Berlin is the first vegan market event organised by enthusiasts throughout the year.
The Christmas Market – or the Winter Edition 2015 – takes place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December 2015, 12:00-22:00.
Vendors: all vegan-artisanal-local everything, all vegan-artisanal-local everyone! Food, beauty, garments, live music, two live cooking events.
Nom: Wafers & ice or hash browns & Sauerkraut, hot punch or smoothies, cupcakes or donuts… – 100% vegan and fresh. Nom til you drop, basically.
Where: Neue Heimat, Revaler Str. 99, 10245 Berlin-Friedrichshain (S-Bahn Warschauer Strasse).
Entry charge: 2€, admission free for children under age 12.
More at: Green Market Facebook page.
Whimsical, Artistic, Local:
Christmas Market Sophienstrasse
What: This cosy and pittoresque side street is located next to the rather tourist-ey Hackesche Höfe and is home to several artisanal shops throughout the year. During the Advent season, it’s transformed into an artisanal Christmas Market on weekends.
December 6, 12/13, 19/20; hours: on Saturdays 12:00-20:00, and 11:00-19:00 on Sundays.
Vendors: Traditional craft & artisan-made goodness – olive oil, honey, woven fabrics, fair trade gift ideas, light painting, ceramcis, skincare, jewellery… Whimsically charming artistic programme.
Nom: All them Christmas market classics like crêpes and mulled wine; new in 2015 are Irish pies and vegan-friendly foods (like donuts. Nom).
Where: Sophienstrasse in Berlin-Mitte (S-Bahn Hackescher Markt).
Entry charge: Free.

Talking about the spontaneity of blogging…
A nice selection of curated brands, including und Gretel organic make-up. Gosh, gosh, looks like me, myself and I are bound to be running all across the city to get everywhere… 😀
My avatar fairy (the first picture in this post) now sports a festive Christmas look as well!
I’m quite in love with her fancy fascinator hat, too. Artist: Anna Goncharenko.
Already up on Twitter 😉
