In my post called ‘Hacking Green Smoothies’ I’ve promised to share with you my favourite smoothie recipes. Here’s a sweet little recipe collection for you.
Sweet Green Smoothie (with Cantaloupe Melon)
Each recipe yields either 2 large glasses, approx. 300-400 ml each, or four smaller servings.
SWEET GREEN SMOOTHIE: Kale (approx. 3/4 cup deep-frozen kale), 1/2 large cucumber, 1/2 cantaloupe melon + approximately 1/2 cup home-made apple spritzer (don’t add sugar and use natural sparkling water). When you use deep-frozen kale, there’s no need to water down the smoothie with just ice cubes 😉
Emerald Green Smoothie (with Parsley and Kale)
4-6 stalks celery, 1/2 cup deep-frozen kale, 1/2 large cucumber, 1/2 cup fresh
persil (pardon my French!!!) parsley + approx. 3/4 cup home-made apple spritzer (view above) or cold green tea or dandelion tea! I also like to green it up with nettle powder.
Red Velvet Smoothie – A Classic!
This is really a classic with juicing: beetroot, carrots, apple, ginger. The trick is to be easy on the apples, which tend to go all apple sauce instead of beverage because of the pectin, and to add more liquid. As in the recipes above, apple spritz is the base here.
1 large beet root, 4 middle-sized carrots, 1 small apple, 1 chunk of ginger + 1.5 cups apple spritz (view above).
You should stir in a table spoon olive oil per serving.
Fresh Green Smoothie (with Cucumber & Ginger)
This one is brilliant on a hot summer morning!4-6 stalks celery, 1/2 large cucumber, 1/2 canary melon, a handful spinach leaves, a handful deep-frozen kale, one small chunk ginger + apple spritz (view above) or – better yet – a fine green tea, cold.
Black Velvet Smoothie (with Blackberries)
My ‘Helix’ smoothie!Basically, it’s a spinach+banana smoothie based on rice milk (or part rice milk, part coconut milk) with a good handful of… fresh blackberries! But some dislike banana-based smoothies and hate spinach. I hear you! So you could as well pimp up any favourite green smoothie with blackberries. Says this recipe card of mine:
[…] best recipe for both beetroot juice and beetroot smoothie is a classic: beetroot, carrots, apple, ginger, possibly lemon. […]
Delicious…but not sure about the Persil! Isn’t that a detergent brand? 😖
LOOOOL
*parsley*
I was writing copy in French that night, and the French word for parsley is “persil”. Thank you! 🙂
That black smoothie looks wicked! Does it stain your lips and teeth? 😉
Nope! Only the tongue gets a slightly otherworldly look, but it goes away 🙂
That’s reassuring.
😀
Delicious! Thanks for sharing. I am so in with red smoothies at the moment. Got a lot, I mean a lot, fresh beetroot from my granny…
Ha, next week I’ll post a recipe collection for beetroot, hot, cold, liquid or solid 🙂 Meanwhile: my favourites right now are – baked beetroot as a side dish or cooled for salads, beetroot smoothies, and cold beetroot soup!
Oh this sounds so appealing and delicious.
yup 🙂 just you wait and see!
