Christmas DIY: The Luxurious Face of Recycling | DIY Quest #4

These golden gift tags are pure recycling. Green Christmas (= producing way less wrapping waste) has never looked as good!less-wrapping-greener-christmas

A little bit more of my “greener Christmas” thoughts today since there’s only four days left!

I’m not much of a crafter, rather a decorator, and as such I love fancy punches. I possess a few of them in different sizes and shapes, and use and abuse them whenever possible.

Christmas time seems soooo legit.

QUICK & EASY GIFT TAG HOW TO

All you need for this no-brainer wrapping DIY is:
Two different sorts of paper or not too thick cardstock (I used golden cardstock from packaged purchases, and tracing paper from a fancy jewellery lookbook);
Matching thread (I have this never-ending golden yarn purchased years ago for suspending Christmas tree ornaments);
One or several shaped punches (star, holly leaves, little snowflake);
One bigger punch of a simple shape (round, square, flower or tag);
Hole punch (office standard)DIY-gift-tags-how-to-and-materials-2For one gift tag, use a middle-sized punch (or big one, just as you want your design to be) on both paper varieties. Layer the shapes and punch with the hole punch to obtain a hole for the thread. The thread should have 1 1/5 of the tag length because you will tie the ends with a knot, and will need the thread length for making a loop when attaching your tag.DIY-gift-tags-how-to-and-materialsNow, punch only the top tag with your shaped punch – and you’re done!DIY-tags-knotted

Optional: you can add a matching bead to the thread. I once had a beautiful pearl necklace and it broke and was just lost, so I went to adding its unbroken, real pearls to such tags, making them keepworthy little bookmarks or even little paper ornaments! Speaking of fun upcycling!”

You can attach the gift tags to presents and to cards of course:DIY-how-to-paper-envelope

    • that’s cute, so matching with your flowers and garden… I like to punch multicoloured shaped confetti from the tiny bits of coloured paper 🙂
      (also keeps the hand muscles toned if one doesn’t mind the loud noise)
