Discover the world’s silliest and easiest DIY project! >>> Growing nails *and* using them as tools usually ends in tears…
“The most industrious man alive
May yet be studious of his nails.”
– A. Pushkin, Eugene Onegin
Piles of boxes.
Some left from chic purchases, others bought at gift supply shops. Most of them are black, red, or hot pink in both matte and glossy textures. Then, two huuuge faux alligator boxes in chocolate brown. This, ladies and gents, is how I store my drawing and crafting supplies: In piles of boxes.
We all agree that moisturising nails, a good healthy diet, a medical check-up and protecting your hands with gloves (warm in winter, rubber for housework, cotton gloves worn with a treatment overnight) all are crucial if you want to obtain a set of natural, healthy, gorgeous looking nails. Not using your nails as tools also helps.
And tight box lids are the nails’ Nemesis.
Well, they were until I found good use for some forgotten bits of ribbon!
The ribbon trick isn’t a real DIY tutorial dans le sens stricte, but it’s a helpful method to easily lift even the tightest lids of boxes.
Here’s the HOW-TO:
Step 1: To get the right measurement, use simple thread and mark where you want the ribbon ends to be.
Step 2: Find a matching ribbon. It should be flat and soft but durable, grosgrain ribbon is ideal.
Step 3: Trim the ribbon according to Step 1 but allow for an extra inch in case of Step 4:
Step 4: Glam up the ribbon as you like or just trim its ends nicely.
Oh, and to cut a perfect decorative triangle into a snippet of a broader ribbon, simply fold the end lengthwise and cut from the crease to the borders. Voila!
You could use those fancy “branded” ribbons you get when shopping luxuries 😉
If you have weak nails that break and chip or if you’re biting your nails, try my go-to remedy for awesome nails that’s also suitable for men!
And consider going water-based with your polishes as it strengthens your nails & doesn’t dry them out.
GOOD LUCK! xoxo
